If baby’s stool is small and pebble like or they are really straining to pass stools they may be constipated. Small changes in baby’s diet or routine can cause occasional constipation in babies. Here are some things you can do at home to try to prevent baby from getting constipated.
Get baby moving, if they are crawling get down on the floor and encourage them to crawl around. One way to encourage this is to have them play with balls or toys that roll and encourage baby to crawl after them. If baby isn’t crawling yet lay them on their back and gently bicycle their legs, you may even get a laugh out of baby while you are doing this!
If baby is eating solids increase the fiber and cut back on foods like rice cereal, applesauce, bananas and bread, which can cause baby to get backed up.
