Stick to the Essentials – What you really need to bring baby home
Packing the hospital bag can be overwhelming. Not only do you need to pack items for yourself, you also have to pack for the new baby. But what do you really need to take to the hospital for baby? These are our top essentials:
Car Seat
This is the most important item you will need, you can’t take baby home without it. Practice getting it in and out of the car, make sure it is secured properly. You will also want to practice adjusting the straps and get familiar with how to properly fasten baby into the car seat, many hospitals will check to make sure baby is in the car seat correctly before discharge.
Going Home Outfit and Receiving Blanket
Pack a full outfit for baby. You will want to dress baby the way you would dress, so if it is the middle of summer you won’t want to pack them a long sleeve onesie with pants. Be sure to wash it before packing.
Fully Stocked Diaper Bag
This will be your first time using the diaper bag! Make sure the diaper bag is stocked with a change of clothes, diapers, wipes, small toy, pacifier (if you plan on using one for baby), hand sanitizer, wet/dry bags or ziplock bags and diaper cream are all musts.
These are a few of our top essentials to throw in the bag for mom:
Gum and Hard Candy for labor
Snacks for your partner (also pack back up change in case they need to run to a vending machine)
Socks with grippy bottoms
Nursing Bras (if you plan to breastfeed)
Nightgown (a nursing one if you plan to breastfeed)
Going Home Outfit
Phone Charger
Pads
Hair Ties
Chapstick
Travel Sized Toiletries
