What is the difference between milk flow and milk production?
Both milk flow and milk production are controlled by hormones within mom’s body. Milk production is controlled by the hormone prolactin and begins in the early stages of pregnancy. Milk flow is controlled by the hormone oxytocin which causes muscle contractions that help push the milk through milk ducts which is triggered when baby suckles.
What is the issue with fenugreek? Why is this fenugreek-free?
Fenugreek is a galactagogue commonly used in the US by lactating mothers to support the increase in flow of breastmilk. A galactagogue is a food, herb or supplement that may support milk production . While Fenugreek is one of the most well-known and used galactagogue in the US, there are some women who have experienced undesirable side effects. Fenugreek is a legume plant, so those with sensitivities to legumes, may experience a reaction when taking lactation support products that include Fenugreek. That is why we felt it important to provide another option of lactation support to be inclusive to all lactating moms.
