‘Gripe Water Original’ Questions:

Is it normal for my baby to sleep following a serving?

It is common for babies who have been dealing with gas and discomfort to experience relief from Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water – and that allows them to rest. The tension associated with their discomfort can be exhausting for baby and parents alike!

Will my baby’s bowel movements be easier to pass?

Some reports indicate that some babies have had less trouble with their bowel movements and were not as constipated as they were before taking Gripe Water.

How long will it take before my baby feels better?

Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water has been known to work in as little as five minutes after it is administered. That’s serious success!

Is it safe to use Gripe Water for an extended period of time?

Check with your pediatrician to determine if there is any reason that you shouldn’t be using it over time. As the formula contains no drugs that could build up over time, it is safe for babies, toddlers and even adults.

Does Gripe Water need to be refrigerated?

No! Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water contains natural preservatives and does not need refrigeration, like some other gripe waters. This gives you one less thing to keep in mind as you take care of your new baby!

How do I Give Gripe Water?

Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water may be administered orally by a dropper, or directly via an empty bottle after feedings. Recommended servings are as follows: Two weeks to one month of age: 1/2 tsp. (2.5 ml) Infants through one to six months of age: 1 tsp. (5 ml) Children six months and older: 2 tsp. (10 ml) Adults: 2 Tbsp. (30 ml) Adults can use Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water for gas, stomach upsets, nausea and hangovers, too!

When should I give my baby Gripe Water?

Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water should be given as needed and not as a preventive measure – after all, it works quickly! To avoid early allergic reactions, we suggest that you wait until your baby is two weeks old and over seven pounds before administering Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water. For all other infants and children, give Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water at the first signs of discomfort.   Most babies will need the product after feedings, when they get gassy from eating too fast or from gulping in air while feeding. It is a good idea to wait 30 minutes after a feeding to administer Gripe Water, as this allows time for food to digest. When it is given too soon, the baby may vomit because he or she may be too full and the ingredients may not mix well with the stomach contents. If a baby is not able to complete a feeding due to gas, he or she may need Gripe Water prior to feeding. By administering the product at different times, you will learn what works best for your baby.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t give Gripe Water to my baby?

Unless prescribed by your pediatrician, we recommend that you delay giving Gripe Water to premature babies and those under seven pounds. Small babies may not be able to tolerate Gripe Water at those stages. In addition, if there is a history of food allergies in your family, we recommend that you contact your pediatrician or physician before giving Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water to an infant. Do not administer the product if your baby experiences increased discomfort or changes that you are not familiar with after taking Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water (for example, the baby becomes more irritable after taking a serving or breaks out in hives or a rash). Contact your doctor if the baby experiences any of these issues. Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water should not be given if there is a history of kidney failure, heart disease or renal problems.

Is Mommy’s Bliss Gripe Water safe?

Our product is manufactured in reputable laboratories that follow strict manufacturing standards, guidelines and procedures for quality and safety. All the ingredients used in Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water are listed on the FDA’s Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) list. The ingredients are carefully selected and must meet Mommy’s Bliss® quality assurance requirements prior to their use. To ensure the safety of the product, it is held after manufacturing for additional analytical and microbiological tests. Only when a certificate of analysis has been issued is the product released for sale. Mommy’s Bliss® Gripe Water is also protected by a safety seal.

‘Gripe Water Night Time’ Questions:

Why is baby fussy at night? Why does colic happen at night?

While the rule of threes can identify when a baby has colic, and despite a wealth of research on colic; there is no single definitive widely agreed to cause for colic. It is possible that baby is already tired or restless and this makes the symptoms of colic more pronounced at nighttime. Mommy’s Bliss® Night Time Gripe Water helps with all these symptoms by promoting relaxation and sleep as well as easing baby’s stomach discomfort.

Why is the recommended age different for this product vs. the Gripe Water original?

Compared to Gripe Water Original, Mommy’s Bliss® Night Time Gripe Water is formulated with additional herbal ingredients that have a history of safe use for these slightly older infants & children.  While it is unlikely there would be any risk administering Mommy’s Bliss® Night Time Gripe Water to newborns – 1 month, for absolute safety our panel of experts determined the lowest  age range to be from 1 month.

Can I give this to my baby during the day-time?

‘Constipation Ease’ Questions:

How long should my child keep using it?

You may safely use Constipation Ease* daily for as long as needed.  It is not habit forming.  The dietary ingredients safely and mildly promote regularity.  However, frequent or severe constipation should be discussed with your medical professional.  Constipation Ease* is used only for occasional mild constipation.

Once open, how long can I keep it before discarding?

We suggest this product be discarded 6 weeks after opening.  This protects the products from potential contamination and degradation that might be caused by repeated handling.

Can I mix this with juice or water?

Yes.  Constipation Ease* is ideal for diluting into acid beverages such as juice and mixes easily in water.  However, we suggest giving the recommended serving separately from other foods.

Can I mix this with formula or breast milk?

The high acidity and low pH of the Constipation Ease* make it incompatible with breast milk, milk and formula. The change in pH will cause curdling; making the liquid less desirable for consumption.

Can I give more than the suggested two times a day if my child has not pooped yet?

You should discuss severe or chronic constipation with your pediatrician. Only administer more than the recommended serving amount (or frequency of servings) if instructed to do so by your pedestrian.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

Constipation Ease does not require refrigeration.

What are prebiotics?

Prebiotics are dietary compounds, such as some forms of soluble fiber, which promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut.  We use a soluble fiber called polydextrose in Constipation Ease*.

When should I give it to my baby?

You can administer Constipation Ease* up to two times daily at any time.  It should NOT be administered within 30 minutes of a feeding (before and after).  Many find that two successive servings about 3 – 4 hours apart works well.

Will this cause my baby to “need” the product instead of being able to go on their own?

NO absolutely not.  Mommy’s Bliss® Constipation Ease is naturally formulated with food based and herbal ingredients to work gently safely and naturally to relieve occasional constipation.  You child will not become dependent on this product.  Remember that as children age and explore more varieties of foods that constipation (and other bowel upsets) can be avoided by making sure your child eats plenty of fiber (eats fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains) and stays hydrated (drinks plenty of water).  Also children who get regular daily exercise and remain active tend to have less frequent bouts of constipation.

Why is the minimum age 6 months? Can I give my younger baby half the dose?

Mommy’s Bliss® Constipation Ease is formulated with safe natural ingredients and designed for the age ranges indicated.  Generally constipation in infants younger than 6 months is a concern which should be discussed with your pediatrician. If you are directed by your pediatrician then you may safely give Mommy’s Bliss® Constipation Ease to younger infants under his or her care.

How soon can I expect to see results?

Like any gentle natural laxative it may take from one to three days to see results especially in older infants & children when normal bowel movements are already less frequent.  Generally if after 3 to 5 days you see no improvement then consult your pediatrician.

How does Mommy’s Bliss Constipation Ease work?

Mommy’s Bliss® Constipation Ease contains gentle ingredients such as soluble fiber from prunes to naturally aid regular bowel movements and ease occasional constipation.  Polydextrose, a prebiotic soluble fiber, works to promote the growth of healthy bowel bacteria that can aid in maintaining regularity.  The herbal ingredients, fennel & dandelion, help to ease stomach discomfort and bloating that sometimes accompanies constipation.

‘Gas Relief Drops’ Questions:

Can my baby accidentally overdose on simethicone?

No. Simethicone is non-toxic, biologically inert and extremely safe to use even at doses higher than allowed in OTCs.

Can Gas Relief Drops be used with Mommy’s Bliss Gripe Water products?

Our Gas Relief Drops can safely be used in conjunction with our Gripe Water products.  The two products together can be especially useful to babies who have been crying incessantly.  The gas drops help baby to burp up all the churned up air in the stomach from bouts of crying by breaking up the gas bubbles in the stomach contents.   Gripe Water likewise aids burping up (bicarbonate) and helps soothe baby’s tummy distress with the ginger and fennel ingredients.  The two together give rapid relief of gas pains and longer lasting relief by soothing baby’s tummy.

How do I administer the gas drop?

Shake well before using. Fill enclosed dropper to recommended dosage level and dispense liquid slowly into baby’s mouth, toward inner cheek. If possible, use weight dosage; otherwise use age. All dosages  may be repeated as needed, after meals and at bedtime or as directed by a physician. Do not exceed 12 doses per day. Dosage can also be mixed with 1 oz. cool water, infant formula or other suitable liquids. Clean dropper after each use.

How do gas drops work?

Gas drops decrease the surface tension of gas bubbles, causing them to combine into larger bubbles in the stomach that can be passed more easily, helping baby pass gas and feel nearly instant relief from that full, bloated feeling.

‘Organic Cough Syrup for Babies’ Questions:

Will this stain my baby’s clothes?

Yes. It is very possible our formula will stain your child’s clothes and other fabric articles it contacts. This is especially true for natural fabrics such as cotton or wool. This is due to our product containing concentrated natural ingredients extracted from fruits and botanicals. Just as tomato sauce or red wine will stain a white cotton shirt so will our natural organic cough syrup.

Why do we add elderberry?

European elder fruit (berries) have been used since ancient times by herbalists and the founders of western medicine (Hippocrates, Dioscorides, and Pliny the Elder) to ease the symptoms associated with coughs. Elderberry is loaded with antioxidants, so it aids in boosting immunity. And it makes our cough formula taste great!

Why did we use agave syrup and not honey?

Our baby cough formulas are designed for infants 4 months and up; all the way to older kids and adults.  The FDA and other health authorities have recommended that infants under 1 year of age should not consume honey due to the potential risk of infant botulism.  Agave syrup offers a safe yet equally effective alternative to honey for infants.

What does organic mean?

USDA certified organic foods are grown and processed according to federal guidelines addressing, among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives. Organic producers rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible. When it comes to processed, multi-ingredient foods, the USDA organic standards specify additional considerations. Regulations prohibit organically processed foods from containing artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors and require that their ingredients are organic, with some minor exceptions. For example, processed organic foods may contain some approved non-agricultural ingredients, like enzymes in yogurt, pectin in fruit jams, or baking soda in baked goods.

Can my baby become dependent on the night time formula, like a sedative?

NO, absolutely not.  The herbal ingredients provide a very mild calming effect to help your baby relax and fall asleep.  There are no sleep-inducing chemicals in our products to become dependent on.

Can I give the night time formula to my baby during the day-time?

YES, but keep in mind the additional herbal ingredients in Mommy’s Bliss® Organic cough syrup and mucus relief* Night Time are designed to help your baby relax and fall asleep.  Thus, we suggest using Mommy’s Bliss® Organic cough syrup and mucus relief* + Immunity Boost* during the day.

How long can I use it after opening the bottle?

We suggest this product be discarded 3 months after opening.  This protects the products from potential contamination and degradation that might be caused by repeated handling.

Do I need to refrigerate this product?

No, the product does not require refrigeration.  Store the product at normal room temperature well closed and out of direct sunlight.  You may refrigerate to prolong the shelf-life, but it is not needed.

What if my child has a persistent cough?

We suggest contacting your pediatrician for any persistent cough that lasts 5 or more days or which seems especially difficult for your child.  Coughs in younger infants, especially those under 4 months of age, may be of significant concern and should be discussed with your pediatrician early on.  Our baby cough products are not for use by infants under 4 months of age.

Can I use the daytime and night time formulas together?

We suggest using Mommy’s Bliss® Organic cough syrup and mucus relief* + Immunity Boost* during the day or at times when you are not necessarily trying to get your baby to sleep.  We recommend using Mommy’s Bliss® Organic cough syrup and mucus relief* Night Time at bedtime or whenever you want to help your child relax and fall asleep.  The two formulas are meant to be taken up to total combined 6 servings in a 24-hour period.  A typical regimen might be 4 or 5 servings of daytime followed by 1 or 2 servings of nighttime formula in the evening and at night, for a total of 6 servings maximum per 24-hour period.  Do not combine our night time cough formula with our gripe water night time product as these share the same herbal ingredient profile to promote restful sleep.  Do not exceed a total of 3 servings of any of our night time formula products in a 24-hour period.

Both our liquid and powder probiotics use the bacteria Lactobacillus Rhamnosis GG.  Our liquid probiotic drops are made with an oil and are a very safe and easy way to administer probiotics to infants and young babies.  Our Probiotic Powder Packs are formulated with other dry ingredients like prebiotics and Xylitol making it an easy, convenient  and good tasting probiotic option for children and older babies.

Are there side effect from taking Probiotic Powder Packs

For children 6 months of age and older, administer 1 packet daily to help support healthy digestive and immune systems.* Empty entire contents of 1 packet into food or drink. Mix until dissolved. When should Probiotic Powder Packs be taken?

We recommend taking Probiotic Powder Packs once a day,  everyday to experience the most benefit for your child’s digestive health and immune function.

Why have you chosen the Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG strain?

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is the most widely studied probiotic to date with over 800 peer reviewed scientific publications.  Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG has been demonstrated to be safe for newborns and adults alike.  The Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG strain is already a common microbe found in the guts of healthy individuals.

Do probiotics need to be refrigerated? Can I refrigerate it if I want to?

Our probiotics do not require refrigeration but must be stored at 77oF (25oC) or below to maintain potency throughout the labeled shelf life of the product.  Refrigeration can prolong the shelf life of the product but is not required. Keep the bottle tightly closed when refrigerating or freezing the probiotic.  Only freeze unopened vitals of the probiotic to avoid moisture pickup on thawing.

Why is it recommended to use probiotics while on antibiotics?

Antibiotics can wipe out the beneficial bacteria in our GI tract while controlling the harmful bacteria they are targeting.  This can cause digestive distress ranging from diarrhea to stomach upset.  Taking a probiotic regularly can help to reduce the amount of distress experienced and hasten the GI tract returning to a balanced state.  Scientists and medical professionals are increasing recognizing the role that a healthy gut microflora plays in overall good health and disease prevention.  Probiotics can plan a significant role, even during antibiotic treatment, in maintaining a balanced digestive system.

What is Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG?

Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG is a naturally occurring strain of bacteria found in fermented foods and common in the gut microflora (microbes) of normally healthy humans.  It is thought by scientists to be an important component of a healthy intestinal tract.

What are probiotics? Are they safe?

Probiotics are living microorganisms that scientific research has shown to benefit human health. Most commonly these are bacteria, but they may also be yeasts. In some cases they are similar to, or the same as, the microbes already found in a healthy digestive tract. Many probiotics were originally isolated from common fermented foods such as yogurt. Mommy’s Bliss Baby Probiotic Drops contain the live culture Lactobacilus rhamnosus GG, the most widely studied probiotic in the world with over 800 scientific publications attesting to the safety and healthfulness of these beneficial bacteria. Like all dietary supplements you should discuss the use of probiotics with your baby’s doctor.

‘Probiotic Drops + Vitamin D’ Questions:

What is the source of the vitamin D in the Probiotic plus vitamin D Organic Drops?

We use a naturally derived certified vegan Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) sourced from lichen.

Can I sterilize the dropper?

The dropper may be placed in boiling water to sanitize if needed.  However, it is normally not needed to rinse, clean or sanitize the dropper.  The dropper should be replaced into the bottle after each use and sealed tightly.  Should it be necessary to clean and sanitize the dropper then it must be completely DRY before replacing in the bottle.  Water being introduced into the probiotic will cause the microencapsulation to fail and reduce the potency of the product.  Also water introduced into the oil will likely allow for undesirable mold and other microbial growth to occur rapidly.

What is the normal color and texture of this oil?

Our probiotic drops contain non-GMO corn oil.  Corn oil has a mild light taste and is light yellow in color.  The microencapsulated probiotic will appear as whitish clumps or sand-like grains suspended in the corn oil.  These will settle out on standing.  In some cases the microencapsulated beads will form a “plug” in the neck of the bottle that is obvious at opening.  This is not abnormal and can be handled by using the dropper to resuspend the beadlets and shake well before administering.

How do I administer? Should I put directly into baby’s mouth?

NEVER place the probiotic dropper directly in the mouth.  The dropper is made from high quality strengthened glass but is not unbreakable.  Administer the probiotic by dispensing the labeled amount (5 drops / 0.33mL / fill once to line marked on dropper) into ready to consume food and beverage, from a spoon or place directly onto the breast prior to feeding.  Do not place in HOT food and beverage.  Do not microwave after adding.  Hot food and beverages can damage live probiotic cells (above 77oF).

How many cells does my baby need?

We provide 1 billion live probiotic cells per daily serving.  So long as you consume probiotics routinely even a few million may be enough to provide a benefit.  Studies support taking 1 billion cells daily.

What happens if my baby drinks too much, can they overdose?

Over-consumption of the probiotic product would not under the vast majority of circumstances be dangerous for you child.  The most serious effect of over-consumption would be a bowel movement with loose stools caused by the excess vegetable oil.  This would be transitory and not serious.

How do I know if it is working?

Probiotics have been scientifically studied and found to have beneficial effects when taken regularly.  Babies should experience less frequent bouts of bowel upsets such as constipation or diarrhea beginning as early as 1-2 weeks after first starting regular use of the probiotic supplement.

How soon after opening does this product need to be discarded?

The product should be discarded 6 weeks after opening,  We suggest using the product daily and there are 30 servings in a single bottle; under normal use the product would be fully consumed well before this interval is up.

How do I know if the product has gone “bad”?

Because corn oil is not generally conducive to the growth of microorganisms it is unlikely spoilage would occur.  If the product is stored in excessive heat and humidity then there will be a loss of the live probiotic bacteria. It is unlikely under normally foreseeable storage, use and handing conditions that the product could “spoil”.  A lessening of the number of probiotic bacteria would not make the product harmful, just less efficacious.

I accidentally left the product uncovered and/or in heat. Do I need to throw it away?

The product can tolerate some mild temperature excursions (held above the recommended storage temperature) with no or only limited loss of probiotic viability.  When left uncovered for long periods of time the product might become contaminated from the environment and also would have increased oxidation of the suspending corn oil.  These would potentially shorten the product shelf life after opening (we suggest discarding 6 weeks after opening).  Excessive heat would reduce the number of beneficial bacteria present.  So while the product would be less efficacious it would not be harmful if used.

The instructions say 5 drops…is that 5 times to the black line on the dropper?

The line on the dropper would be the entire 5 drop volume.  You may aspirate this volume into the dropper and then dispense all at once OR you may aspirate a larger amount into the dropper and then dispense ONLY 5 drops.  Both volumes would be the same.

Why is the product cloudy?

Mommy’s Bliss® Probiotic product is microencapsulated (small particles) suspension in corn oil.  Because these particles have a tendency to clump together the product can appear anything from a finely dispersed sand line suspension to a variety of clumpy masses.  This is perfectly normal.  The microencapsulation protects the live bacteria (probiotic) so we can provide you with the most active product.

Can I use gripe water and probiotics together?

Yes.  We recommend the daily use of our Probiotic Drops to promote long term digestive health and then when needed use of any of our Mommy’s Bliss® gripe water products to sooth baby’s colic & gas quickly.

Can probiotics soothe colicky babies?

There have been many peer reviewed published scientific studies that have shown the benefits of probiotics when added to the diet. Studies of probiotics have shown benefits to infants, babies and children as well as adults. Some studies have shown that probiotics can specifically ease symptoms in colicky babies, including reducing crying time. Probiotics are meant to be taken on a regular recurring basis, often daily. Probiotics work over time to support overall digestive health and immune function. Thus probiotics will not bring immediate relief to a colicky baby but may reduce the frequency and severity of bouts over time.

‘Probiotic Drops 15 Day Boost’ Questions:

‘Organic Multivitamin Drops’ Questions:

Will this stain my baby’s clothes?

Yes.  It is very possible our formula will stain your child’s clothes and other fabric articles it comes in contact with.  This is especially true for natural fabrics such as cotton or wool.  This is due to our product containing concentrated natural ingredients extracted from fruits, vegetables, plants and botanicals.  Just as tomato sauce will stain a white cotton shirt so will our natural organic vitamins.

If my baby doesn’t eat food yet; should I give this to them?

Children who are exclusively formula fed are unlikely to need a multivitamin supplement.  Breast fed babies may benefit from a multivitamin.  Exclusively or predominantly breastfed babies should take a supplement containing Vitamin D (400IU per day), as suggested by pediatricians.  You should discuss your child’s dietary needs with your pediatrician or registered dietician.

How long can I use it after opening the bottle?

We suggest this product be discarded 6 weeks after opening.  This protects the products from potential contamination and degradation that might be caused by repeated handling.

Why is there vitamin D2 instead of vitamin D3?

Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and D3 (cholecalciferol) have long been considered equivalent in human nutrition with the possible preference for Vitamin D3 being a new focus of research only in recent years.  Currently US public health agencies (FDA, CDC) recommend 400IU per day of either Vitamin D2 or D3 for adequate nutrition.  In simple terms Vitamin D2 is found in plants while D3 is from animal sources.  The exception is that D3 is also found in some lichen.  We sourced Vitamin D2 from mushrooms because it is the most widely available form of organic certified Vitamin D.  Currently there are no or very limited sources of organic certified Vitamin D3.

When should parents start giving a multivitamin to their baby or child?

Formula fed infants will not need a multi-vitamin until they transition to solid foods.  Breast fed infants should take a vitamin supplement containing Vitamin D.  You should discuss nutrition with your child’s pediatrician or registered dietician.

Why is the texture grainy?

Our Multivitamin Organic Drops are made from extracts of organic fruits and botanicals. The organic nature of the Mommy’s Bliss multivitamin means no synthetic vitamins are used and the extracts could be a slightly grainy texture.

Why is the color so dark?

Our Multivitamin Organic Drops are made from extracts of organic fruits and botanicals. There are no colors added. It’s a beautiful, simple color from Mother Earth. Be sure to shake the bottle well to disperse the content evenly. The 1mL serving marker is up towards the bulb of the dropper.

‘Organic Vitamin D Drops’ Questions:

How do I give this to my baby?

You can add to food, beverage, formula, breast milk.  You can also give using a small spoon.  Or you can place the drop directly onto the breast prior to feeding.  It’s so easy to administer because it is only 1 drop per day.

How much vitamin D is in one drop?

Each drop contains 400 IU (100% of the daily value for all ages) of Vitamin D3.

Do I need to refrigerate this product?

No the product does not require refrigeration.  Store the product at normal room temperature well closed and out of direct sunlight.  You may refrigerate to prolong the shelf-life but it is not needed.

How long can this stay open for?

The Mommy’s Bliss Vitamin D organic drops are shelf stable and when stored properly as directed will be fully potent and fresh until the date listed as the expiration on the bottle.  As directed keep the bottle well sealed, stored out of direct sunlight and at normal household temperature.  Refrigeration will prolong the shelf-life.  Protect from excessive moisture and humidity during storage after opening.

Why is there vitamin E in the vitamin D?

The Vitamin E (as a mixed tocopherol naturally derived from soy oil) is used to preserve the product against oxidation.  Vitamin E is a very effective antioxidant.  This allows us to extend the shelf-life of the drops to give a fresh fully potent product for 2 years.

From where is the vitamin D derived?

The Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is from lanolin (from sheep wool).  This is the most common source of vitamin D3 used in vitamin supplements and foods.
