Why do we add elderberry?
European elder fruit (berries) have been used since ancient times by herbalists and the founders of western medicine (Hippocrates, Dioscorides, and Pliny the Elder) to ease the symptoms associated with coughs. Elderberry is loaded with antioxidants, so it aids in boosting immunity. And it makes our cough formula taste great!
What does organic mean?
USDA certified organic foods are grown and processed according to federal guidelines addressing, among many factors, soil quality, animal raising practices, pest and weed control, and use of additives. Organic producers rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible. When it comes to processed, multi-ingredient foods, the USDA organic standards specify additional considerations. Regulations prohibit organically processed foods from containing artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors and require that their ingredients are organic, with some minor exceptions. For example, processed organic foods may contain some approved non-agricultural ingredients, like enzymes in yogurt, pectin in fruit jams, or baking soda in baked goods.
Why did we use agave syrup and not honey?
Our baby cough formulas are designed for infants 4 months and up; all the way to older kids and adults. The FDA and other health authorities have recommended that infants under 1 year of age should not consume honey due to the potential risk of infant botulism. Agave syrup offers a safe yet equally effective alternative to honey for infants.
What if my child has a persistent cough?
We suggest contacting your pediatrician for any persistent cough that lasts 5 or more days or which seems especially difficult for your child. Coughs in younger infants, especially those under 4 months of age, may be of significant concern and should be discussed with your pediatrician early on. Our baby cough products are not for use by infants under 4 months of age.
What are the health benefits of elderberries?
Elderberry is very high in antioxidants including Vitamin C and polyphenolic proanthocyanins. It has long been used in traditional European treatments for respiratory ailments, general healthfulness and wound healing.
