Moms make it betterWe’re a team of moms who know what you are going through because we’ve helped our own babies through every sniffle, every cough, and every loooong fussy, frustrating evening. When we make products, we use our own experiences (as well as the latest research) to ensure we are making the best product we can, not just for your baby, but for you, too. Because we know that it's the little things that only moms know that make all the difference. Here are some stories that show how our unique perspective and insights as moms help us craft better remedies. Gripe Water is often the first thing a baby has besides breast milk or formula, so it was super important to us to make sure the formulation was something that babies could take easily and that moms would feel good about. So first we worked to make sure the viscosity of Gripe Water is as close to breast milk and formula as possible. We want it to “feel” like something babies are used to, and we wanted to make sure their little mouths could handle swallowing it. We’re also super fussy about our flavors; we want babies to love them! Our organic ginger and fennel create the perfect blend of just-sweet-enough goodness so babies actually look forward to taking it. When my baby, Nolan, was born, I got to put Gripe Water to the test when he had his first fussy evening. And I have to admit that like most moms, I was still a little nervous before I gave it to him that first night. But of course I had nothing to fear: it was easy peasy. And I’m here to report that in our house, it’s become our “magic elixir.” I love seeing his fussy face turn into a big wide smile when he gets his Gripe Water. We got our start with Gripe Water, which helps ease baby’s tummy troubles and colic symptoms, but we knew we could make families even happier if we could help address the underlying problems that cause tummy upset. So using research on how probiotics can play a role in helping babies develop healthy guts and immune systems—especially for babies born via c-section—we set out to make a probiotic that was both safe and effective for little ones. First, we chose Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG the most studied strain of probiotics out there and one that had been proven safe for baby. Because we use just this single, proven strain, it means you’ll know your baby is getting more than 1 billion pure Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG cells in every serving. We quickly realized that it doesn’t matter how good a probiotic is if it doesn’t get to the baby’s gut. So we worked to create a proprietary microencapsulation process that wraps the probiotic cells in little protective bubbles so they travel safely through your baby’s digestive system and land in the gut where they do their work. And because there’s nothing in the product but Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and non-GMO oil, it’s ridiculously easy to give to baby. I only wish I’d had this product when I had a c-section with my son 12 years ago! In fact, I use this myself for my daily probiotic. So much better than taking yet another capsule! If you’re a mom, you probably know all about the “witching hour,” that time in the evening when babies are at their fussiest. Since it’s an evening phenomenon, we thought let’s make something that helps babies relax and fall asleep easier. So we took our best-selling tummy relief product, Gripe Water and added organic herbs that help baby calm down and ease into sleep: chamomile, lemon balm and passion flower. We chose these particular herbs because they’ve been used for centuries, are safe for babies, and aren’t at all habit-forming. My own first baby was super colicky, but I didn’t realize it. I just thought he was a newborn who cried a lot, especially in the evenings when everybody was just completely worn out. That’s why I love telling moms about Gripe Water Night Time, because it just works, whether you know for sure your baby’s colicky or not. It soothes that “unexplained” fussiness and helps everybody get their rest. And in my book, everything always seems better after a good night’s sleep. Babies can get really cranky when you need to give them a remedy: squirming, tears, spit-outs. If it’s a short-term fix like syrup to soothe a cough, you can usually deal with it. But for something preventive like vitamins that need to be given every day, it’s just not worth it. So when we made our Organic Vitamin D for babies, we worked hard to create a formula that squeezed a full day’s serving into one teeny tiny, tasteless drop. You can put a drop on your finger, your breast, a pacifier, or the nipple of a bottle. Then your baby gets all the potent organic vitamins they needs without even knowing it, and it easily becomes part of your daily routine. Oh my gosh, I only wish we’d had these when my kids were babies! To this day, “medicine” is a bad word around our house; if I get out the ibuprofen, my kids scream like aliens. God forbid if they ever have to take antibiotics! So we have to get creative. Like if my 5-year-old is constipated, we make her “dinosaur juice”—our Constipation Ease mixed with orange juice. I know someday they’ll get over their aversion to taking medicine, but until then, the struggle continues! One night, my baby Julian got a big case of the hiccups after a 2am feeding. They wouldn’t stop! I was rocking him with one hand as I struggled to fill the Gripe Water dropper with the other, dropping it in the process. So now I have a fussy baby and Gripe Water all over my nightstand and sheets. So frustrating! So I worked with the team to create a whole new delivery system, with a no-spill syringe, that allows you to dispense Gripe Water with one hand, even if you’re half asleep, and that won’t spill even if you drop it. It seems like a small thing, but it was a huge change for us and it took every department in our company to make it happen. But we all believed it was a lifesaver for moms, and so now all of our liquid remedies have this packaging. I especially appreciate it for the Organic Elderberry Syrup because it’s naturally bright berry red and would be a nightmare to clean up if I spilled it on my white sheets!
